Charlotte Lee Alonzi died Feb. 19 in Palisade. She was 73.
She was born Jan. 27, 1935, in Redcliff, Colo., one of five siblings born to John and Rhu (Freeman) Prokopich. She became a young bride to Joseph Fesinmeyer in 1954, and within a year had her first set of twins, daughters. This marriage ended in divorce, and in the early 1960s, she met and married Sante Gino Alonzi. Soon a set of twin boys followed. Mom was astonished at this turn of events, but with the help of 6-year-old daughters, who divvied the boys up, the chores got done.
Mom was widowed at the age of 35. She had tremendous mental and physical challenges throughout her lifetime, but tried to live intelligently and with purpose. She was an excellent cook at one time, very artistic and loved school, impressing its importance on her children.
At the age of 42, she began college, eventually becoming a licensed vocational nurse. Later in life, she became a grandma and great-grandma, and thoroughly enjoyed being around her grandchildren.
She is survived by children Robyne (Steve) Henderson, Debbie (Ben) Brockett, Anthony Alonzi and Michael Alonzi; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Maxine Young; and brother Wayne.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers J.T. and Paul.
Services will be held Friday, Feb. 22, at 12:30 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. A graveside service will be held at the Palisade Cemetery afterward. We love and miss you, Mom!
