Edward H. “Bud” Meisner
passed away on April 10th, 2011
in Rifle. Bud was 86 years old.
Bud was born on July 30th, 1924
near New Castle, Colorado to
Henry and Mary (Schreiner)
Meisner. Bud spent his childhood
in the Rifle area, graduating from
Rifle Union High School in 1943. He joined the Army in June of
1943. Bud served in the Corp of Engineers where he attended the
New York Trade School trained as an Electrician. He then served in
the European Theater and the Pacific Theater until 1946. Bud was
recalled to active duty in 1950 when he served in Korea until November
of 1951. Bud married Irma Hollenbaugh in 1947. They
made their home in Meeker and Rifle where they raised their two
sons, James E. Meisner of Richland, Washington and Daryl L.
Meisner of Rifle, Colorado.
Bud worked as a trucker hauling uranium ore from the Uravan and
Gateway area of Colorado to the Rifle processing mill. He was also
an auto mechanic. He later owned and operated Art and Bob's shoe
store in Rifle where he was a skilled cobbler. After selling the shoe
store he returned to trucking and equipment operation until his retirement.
Bud also served on Rifle City Council and as Rifles'
Mayor from 1976 to 1979 as well as several years on the Rifle Planning
Commission. Bud was very active in the Masons and Eastern
Star. He was a Master Mason, Scottish Rite, 32nd degree mason,
past master of the Rifle lodge and Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern
Star in Rifle.
Bud and Irma spent many good years traveling in their fifth wheel
trailer. Bud spent a lot of time tinkering, there isn't much he couldn't
make or fix. Bud was devoted to his family; he took great pleasure
in his great grandchildren.
Bud is survived by his sons, James, his children Chris Meisner,
Melinda Holloway (Jason), great grandchildren, Owen, Cam and
Christina; Daryl, his wife Mary, their children, Jason (Sarah), great
grandchildren, Andrew and Morgan; Janeal Weisbrod (Matthew),
great grandchildren, Lilly, Alexander and Xavier; brothers, Don
(Natalie) of Arizona City, AZ, and Bill (Sally) of Houston, TX,
and many caring friends and neighbors.
Memorial services will be held at Rifle United Methodist Church at
10:00 a.m. on April 23, 2011 followed by Masonic grave side rites
at Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to
Colorado State Veterans Home at Rifle, 851 E. 5th Street, Rifle, CO.
