Gary M. Magnuson passed away unexpectedly in Gypsum on June 22 at the age of 52.

Gary was born in Breckenridge on Jan. 14, 1959, to Norman and Edelle (Bruce) Magnuson. He grew up on the family farm. He attended school and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1977. Gary was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church, White Rock, S.D. He was active in 4-H and Tri-Parish Hi-League.

Gary's love of skiing and mountains brought him to Colorado. He attended Colorado Mountain College at Leadville. After working at various ski resorts, he owned and operated Magnuson Construction for a number of years doing forms fitting and cement work in the Vail Valley until health issues forced him to quit.

Gary made lasting friendships wherever he went. His generosity and kind spirit were felt by many. He loved his son very much and enjoyed spending time with him, whether camping in the mountains, working together or just talking.

Gary had many talents, artistically, musically and mechanically. He designed, rebuilt and painted cars and motorcycles. His sketches and photography are displayed in homes. For years, harmonicas were close at hand for composing and playing songs. Other interests included reading, all forms of music, camping, skiing, snowmobiling and anything outdoors.

Gary is survived by his son, Jordan; mother, Edelle Magnuson; brother Ardy Magnuson; and nieces and nephew. He was proceeded in death by a son Brandon; father, Norman; sister, Nicki; and grandparents. Gary will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

A celebration of life service for Gary Magnuson will be held at the Everett Family Funeral Chapel in Gypsum at 2 p.m. July 1. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery near White Rock, S.D.
