H. Lee BARDSLEY of Englewood died Dec. 24, 1998 in Denver, following a brief illness. He was 77. A memorial service was held Dec. 28 at Drinkwine Mortuary. Interment was at Fort Logan Cemetery.
Lee was born Feb. 22, 1921 to Howard L. and Bertha BARDSLEY of Squaw Creek. Howard was Eagle County Road Superintendent, building many of the roads and bridges throughout Eagle County. Bertha cared for the home and children.
Lee and his wife, Evelyn Anderson of Gypsum, lived in the Eagle Valley until World War II, when he joined the U.S. Army, serving as a staff sergeant in the Pacific Theater. After the war, Lee and Evelyn married and traveled throughout the Western U.S. as Lee built telecommunications circuits for AT&T.
Lee and Evelyn loved the Eagle Valley, maintaining property in Gypsum and Wolcott. They spent much time with friends and family in the valley. Lee was well known for his outgoing manner, always ready to tease and talk with everyone he met.
Evelyn preceded Lee in death, passing away in 1996 after more than 49 years of marriage. His brother, Harry, formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away in 1997. He is survived his his three sons: Gary, of Boulder; Rod, of Gypsum; and Alan, of Tustin, Calif. He is also survived by five grandchildren.
