Robert Austin (Bob) Foley, 64, of Gypsum, died Dec. 23.

Born Jan. 6, 1947, in Boston to John X. Foley and Jean Foley (both deceased), Bob grew up in Scituate, Mass., and graduated from Archbishop Williams High School and Hebron Academy. He attended American University and received his B.A. and M.B.A. from Boston University.

He worked and lived in Boston for many years before he moved to Edwards in 2006 and later to Gypsum. He loved everything that Colorado had to offer and never missed a chance to discover more about this wonderful state. He was often out biking, hiking or just driving around to discover more hidden treasures in the mountains. He loved to travel and had traveled all over the country and the world. His most recent trip was to Alaska to camp and observe grizzly bears in their native environment.

Those who knew Bob remember him best for his love of life. He was always up for trying something new. It seemed like he was always either on his way to the golf course, heading out for a bike ride, or on his way back from skiing, fishing, hiking or camping. His favorite activities were skiing, camping and spending time with his family. He volunteered for Community Guest Service at Vail Ski Resort and thought that Vail was “the best mountain on earth.” Even before his diagnosis, his philosophy was to make each day count, and that's exactly what he did. He has inspired many friends and family to try to live this way as well. He loved meeting new people and never knew a stranger. He touched many people's lives and is sorely missed.

He was secretary of the Eagle County Republican Committee and active at the state level as well.

He is survived by his wife, Kay (Small) Foley; son Sean Foley and his wife, Monica, of Golden; daughters Jessica Foley and her husband Adam Levine of Hingham, Mass., and Micaela Foley of Scituate, Mass.; and grandson Aidan Jones Foley of Dallas.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Vail Interfaith Chapel
