Carmelita Ann Gallegos, 74, of Denver since 1990, passed away Feb. 21 in Denver.
She was born April 19, 1937, to Louis and Porfidia (Mascarenas) Samora in Leadville. She married Maximinio Gallegos on Aug. 18, 1952, in Leadville. Carmelita attended Leadville High School and was a homemaker. She enjoyed dancing, camping, music and bingo and loved spending time with her family.
Carmelita is survived by her husband, Maximinio Gallegos, of Leadville; daughters Mary Madrid and husband Octavio, of Denver, Patsy Padilla, of Leadville, Margie Valencia, of Denver, Edna Gonzales and husband Rosen, of Gypsum, Juanita Gallegos, of Leadville, Maxine Arteaga and husband Louie, of San Bernadino, Calif., and Lorraine Gallegos, of Denver; sons Willie Gallegos and wife Helen, of Leadville and James Gallegos and wife Maria, of Castle Rock; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Teresa Fernandez, Celina Mascaranez and Shirley Vasquez; brother Ricardo Samora; and great-grandchild Matthew Martinez.
A visitation was held Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Leadville with a rosary and vigil service. A mass of Christian burial will be held today at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Rev. Father Steve Parlet as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with a reception to follow at Leadville Elks Lodge No. 236.
