Richard John Henry ("Pops") was born the son of Emil and Pauline (Arrajj) Henry on Nov. 14, 1947 in Syracuse, NY. He attended St. Albert's Junior Seminary in Middletown, NY, graduating in 1965.

Rick then attended Syracuse University. He joined the United States Air Force in 1968 and served in Thailand as an Air Traffic Controller during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1975.

He then worked as an Air Traffic Controller in Dickinson, N.D., Denver, and Grand Forks, N.D. until his retirement in 2002. After his retirement Pops moved to Vail to be near his children. He held several jobs in the valley as retirement did not suit him, most recently as a driver for Colorado Mountain Express. Pops' passions were his children and grandchildren, photography, fishing and airplanes.

Pops passed away peacefully Friday in his home. He is survived by his mother, Pauline Henry of Irskine, Minn.; his wife Marge Henry of Eagle-Vail; daughter Erin (Chris) Gersbach of Eagle-Vail; son Jason (Fiona) of Eagle-Vail; and daughter Kylee (Greg) Miller of Dillon; three grandchildren, Delaney, Reed and Charlie. Pops was preceded in death by his father, Emil Henry.

A celebration of life will be held Friday at the Holiday Inn Apex Building in Vail from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Vail Valley Medical Center Cardiology Department or to the Veterans of Foreign Wars at 406 West 34th St., Suite 718, Kansas City, MO 64111.
