Robert W. Ralston, of Steamboat Springs, passed away Jan. 5 at home surrounded by family members.
Robert was born on Jan. 6, 1928, to Ortel and Dora Ralston in Hayden and lived his entire life in Routt County.
Robert married Walli Burga on Dec. 26, 1964, in Steamboat and began family life with her and her sons, Richard and Paul. The family enjoyed hiking and Jeeping on Rabbit Ears Pass, boating on Steamboat Lake and hunting and fishing. Robert was instrumental in getting Richard and Paul into the Steamboat Gun Club that taught them gun safety and hunting skills that they use to this day.
Robert was the Texaco Bulk Plant operator from the early 1960s to the 1990s. He sold and delivered Texaco products throughout Routt County, including at two service stations he and Walli owned.
In 1980, they remodeled one of the service stations into a liquor store that they operated for 28 years until they sold the property where The Victoria now stands.
Robert also was very active in civic organizations, including the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus, and he was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and brothers. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, his stepsons Richard, Paul and Wes, granddaughters and a grandson.
A service was held Jan. 9 at the Holy Name Catholic Church followed by burial at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery.
