Charles Sandelin
Charles Sandelin of Fly gulch passed away at the Steamboat Springs hospital at 7:00 o'clock Friday evening, October 29, as a result of burns on his body. The exact cause of the burning of his clothing is not known, but it is presumed he was attempting to light his pipe while alone in the house. Mrs. Sandelin had been at the barn and when she returned found Mr. Sandelin at the hydrant high in the kitchen trying to extinguish his flaming clothes. Very quickly she had the flames smothered, but the flesh on one side of her husband's body had been burned. He was immediately brought to the Steamboat Springs hospital. The burns had been too severe to give him any chance for recovery. The funeral was held from the Congregational church on Sunday afternoon with Rev. J. J. Jones, pastor, in charge. Vocal selections were sung by a choir composed of Mrs. J. J. Jones. Mrs. Sales, Mrs. E. H. Zimmerman, Mrs. George Wither, Mrs. Florence Marquette, with Mrs. J. L. Norvell playing the piano accompaniment The active pall bearers were Edward Davis, M. Ankeny, The active pall bearers were James Cochran, Joe Critchfleld, James Hangs and Albert Ohman . Many friends of the deceased and the family were in attendance and there were numerous and beautiful floral tributes. Interment was in Steamboat Springs Cemetery. Charles Sandelin was born in Finland December 15, 1868 . He was past 57 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Cramer of Hayden, and three sons, Roy of Denver and John and Carl G. at home . His marriage to Jennie Radstrom took place in Denver in 1891 . He came to Michigan from Finland when he was 21 years old, lived there for three years and then came to Colorado. For the past 18 years he has lived in Routt County, and for the past 14 years on the former Joe Critchfleld ranch in Fly gulch. Mr. Sandelin has been one of the substantial citizens of the county, with many friends and acquaintances to regret his passing .
