Arthur R. Hudspeth of Steamboat Springs died July 23, 2001, at the Doak Walker Care Center.

He was born Oct. 29, 1909, in Mulhall, Okla., to the late Ralph and Katherine (Waggoner) Hudspeth. Art married Mary Florence Powell Dec. 24, 1931, at the Methodist minister's parsonage in Steamboat Springs. She preceded him in death Feb. 5, 1998.

The Hudspeth family came to Routt County in 1920, and Art attended the Sidney elementary school and was a graduate of Steamboat Springs High School. He operated the ranch in Sidney that his son, Dale, now runs. He was a past president of the Cattlemen's Association, on the state and local level. He started, along with other locals, the chariot cutter racing events in Steamboat Springs. Art was a member of the local Masonic Lodge and was also a member of the Shriners. He loved his horses and enjoyed a little fishing.

He is survived by his son Dale of Steamboat Springs; a daughter, Roberta Tucker and husband Dr. Tucker of Rapid City, S.D.; his grandchildren, Glenda, Lynn, David and Daniel; and great-grandchildren, Brett, Scott, Lynae, Taran, Kelsey and Katelyn; a sister, Katherine Gourley of Steamboat Springs; and a brother, Ivan, of Denver.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Everett.

Funeral services were held July 27, 2001, at the United Methodist Church of Steamboat. Rev. Larry Oman officiated. The Masonic Lodge conducted the memorial service. The organist was Lisa Wilderman. Interment was at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery.
