Part-time Grand Junction resident David R. Zimmerman, 57,
Lakewood, died April 24, 2012, at his home.
Viewing will be 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Palisade Funeral Home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Palisade Municipal Cemetery.
Mr. Zimmerman was a railroad engineer.
Survivors include her mother, Madeline Zimmerman; three
brothers, Tom, Joel and Jeffrey; two sisters, Carol Zimmerman and
Mary Groves.

April 24 at his residence in Lakewood.
Graveside services will
take place Monday at 2:00 p.m. at
Palisade Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00
p.m. at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the
Palisade Funeral Home.
Dave, the eldest son of Ben and
Madeline (Vidmar) Zimmerman, was born January 3, 1955 in Grand
Junction, Colorado. He was a graduate of Central High School.
Dave started work for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad on the
track crew shortly after high school. He quickly worked his way up
to railroad engineer and was an engineer for Amtrak on the Denver
to Grand Junction run at the time of his death. He loved his job and
after 38 years still had pride and appreciation for every day he
guided the train to its destination. He was a member of BLET
Amtrak Denver Division 47, Amtrak-Denver and served as their
secretary-treasurer.
David and Barbara Townsend were married in 1978. They divorced
in April of 1990.
Health and fitness were uppermost in Dave's life. Family and
friends will hold deep in their hearts the remembrance of Dave as a
very generous, loving and compassionate person with a "heart of
gold". He was always giving and helping each and every one.
Dave’s life was about excellence and he made a positive impact in
the many lives that he touched.
Dave is survived by his mother, Madeline Zimmerman, of Grand
Junction, Colorado; two sisters: Carol Zimmerman of Bothell,
Washington, and Mary S. Groves of Fruita, Colorado, and three
brothers: Tom (Beth) Zimmerman of Snohomish, Washington, Jeffrey
(Jami) of Silt, Colorado, and Joel (Mary K.) Zimmerman of
Austin, Texas. He is also survived by six nieces and 6 nephews. He
was preceded in death by his father, Ben Zimmerman, and brother,
Ronald Zimmerman. He will also be greatly missed by Dolores
Kirk, her son, Josh Wilson, and her daughter, Chelsee Wilson and
especially by Chelsee's son, Ashton to whom Dave devoted many
loving hours.
Service are entrusted to Palisade Funeral Home, LLC, of Palisade,
Colorado.
