La Vern C. Booth
December 31, 1921 – July 28, 2012
La Vern C. Booth, better known
as "Father Time" to his friends at
the Mesa County Road Department,
went home to meet his Lord
and Savior and be reunited with
his beautiful wife, Edith, on Saturday,
July 28th, 2012.
La Vern and Edith were married
for more than 70 years, and La
Vern longed for the day they
would once again embrace-- this time in heaven.
On December 31st, 1921, La Vern was born to Lee and Elsie
Booth of Broken Bow, Nebraska. As a young man, he came to
Grand Junction, where, while driving down Main Street, he saw
Edith Bilbrey, and fell in love with her at first sight. They were married
on August 28th, 1939, after which you never saw one without
the other.
La Vern worked for Climax Uranium until its closing, then worked
for the Mesa County Road Department until retirement. He considered
his co-workers to be some of his closest friends.
He attended First Assembly of God Church for over 50 years,
serving as a deacon and usher. La Vern left a legacy to the church in
the bus ministry he helped to start, which is still in service today.
Later, he attended New Vision Assembly of God Church, where he
loved to go until he became too ill to attend.
He was also blessed with Professional Case Management (PCM)
Nurses whose constant care made it possible for Laverne to continue
living at home during his illness. La Vern loved his nurses,
considering them a part of his family and creating special nicknames
for them. La Vern could not remember names, so he called
everyone "Joe".
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith; daughter, Sharon
Burl; his parents, Lee and Elsie Booth; his brothers, Marvin and
Forest Booth, and his sisters, Betty Mantlow and Elsie Pittman.
He is survived by two children, son, Ron (Naida) Booth of Houston,
Texas, and daughter, Marilyn McClanahan of Grand Junction;
t e n g r a n d c h i l d r e n , 2 7 g r e a t - g r a n d c h i l d r e n , a n d t h r e e
great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Bill and Margaret
Blevins, his beloved brother and sister-in-law, who were a constant
support during his illness.
You're in heaven, now, Papa, with Jesus, Mama, and your family.
We will miss you and cannot wait until we are all together again!
