Craig Wiedel,
1968-2006

LEADVILLE - Craig Joseph Wiedl of Leadville died at his home last month. He was 38.

Wiedl was born Sept. 27, 1968 in Boston. He attended Middleboro elementary schools and graduated from Middleboro High School in 1986. He participated in cross-country, wrestling and track and was the captain of all three teams in his senior year.

He also played in the school band and orchestra and made the all-state orchestra his senior year. He was a member of the National Honor Society and the Silver M Society.

He attended the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. He graduated in 1990 and received his commission as a lieutenant with the 12th Infantry Division stationed in Fort Carson.

He served one tour in Kuwait, leaving in 1994.

He was employed as a construction-project estimator.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Wiedl of Seven Hills, Ohio; his uncle, William A. Wiedl Jr. of Clarksville, Ind. and his ex-wife, Jodie Wiedl of Breckenridge.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St., Middleboro, Mass. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in the National Cemetery in Bourne, Mass.

Craig Wiedl of Vail 1968-2006 snowshoe remembrance. Please join us in remembering Craig Wiedl. He was a wonderful son, husband and friend. Craig loved sports and being in the great outdoors. We will meet Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Pitkin Creek Trailhead in East Vail. The snowshoe hike will take about 45 minutes. Please carpool as parking is limited. There will be a reception to follow at the Interfaith Chapel In Vail at 2:30 p.m.
