Willa Hunter, a longtime Oak Creek resident, died on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at the Doak Walker Care Center in Steamboat Springs. She was 94.
Willa was born Sept. 27, 1915, in Denver, the daughter of Mark and Stella (Stanley) Hall.
She was raised in Denver until she was 10 years old, at which time the family traveled by covered wagon to Oak Creek.
Willa married Walter C. Hunter on April 26, 1936, in Hugo. They made their home on a ranch near Oak Creek for many years, later moving into town. Willa enjoyed crocheting, knitting and embroidery, and was an avid doll collector. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Oak Creek.
Willa is survived by her sons, James (Cecelia) Hunter, of Livermore, Walter (Betty) Hunter, of Craig, and Tommy (Jackie) Hunter, of California; 17 grandchildren; numerous great- and great great-grandchildren; her half sisters, Delilah, of Greeley, and Clara Rogers, of Grand Junction; and her half brother, Mark Hall, of Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Irma; her twin sister; her half sisters Doris and Margaret; and her brothers Alfred, Charles and Ernest.
A graveside service was held on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at the Oak Creek Cemetery, with Kelly Carlson officiating.
