Bert D. "Buzz" George Jr. passed away unexpectedly Jan. 5 at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Milton Mills, N.H. He was 55. Bert was the father of Steamboat Springs residents Andrew George, Bert D. George, Jr., Amanda Sutherland and Tyler Grant.
Bert was born Aug. 11, 1952, in Rochester, N.H., to Bert D. and Edythe Horne George. Bert served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam era. He was a retired rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, with more than 30 years of service in Rochester, N.H. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a tree farmer.
Bert was said to be the "glue" that held the families together. Above all, Bert loved being with his children and grandchildren more than anything in life.
Bert is survived by his wife of 12 years, Martha Lapan George, of Milton Mills, N.H.; children Michael George and his wife Shanon, of Alton, N.H.; Andrew George and his wife, Ailini; Bert D. George, Jr. and his wife, Iris; Amanda Sutherland and her husband, Craig; and Tyler Grant, all of Steamboat Springs; Rochelle Brown of Londonderry, N.H.; and Jamie Butterfield, and her husband, Christopher, of Puyallup, Wash. Bert had four grandchildren: Ilana Brown, Adalia and Aiden George, and Jack Sutherland. Bert also is survived by his father, Bert D. George; brother Paul George and his wife, Christina; sister Kathryn Cilley and her husband, Gregory, all of Rochester, N.H.; stepsister Karen Johnson, of Somersworth, N.H.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edythe Horne George.
A memorial service was held Jan. 10 at Grace Community Church in Rochester, N.H. Arrangements by the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home in Rochester, N.H.
