Paul Maus Guthner, a longtime resident of Brush and Walden, passed away Feb. 2, 2008, after a three-year fight with leukemia. He was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Denver, the son of Brig. Gen. William E. and Alice Maus Guthner. A 1946 graduate of South High School, he served in the U. S. Army. After discharge, he went to work for the state of Colorado, first as a highway patrolman and then as a Revenue Enforcement Officer, in which capacity he served in Fort Morgan from 1964 until 1985. A Master Mason and member of the Scottish Rite, he also was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and was active with the National Western Stock Show Association. He is survived by a daughter, Polly Archuleta, of Castle Rock, a son Parke and daughter-in-law Regina, of Chesapeake, Va., a son Paul Joseph and daughter-in-law Becky of Plano, Texas, as well as four grandchildren. He will be missed by his many friends, both new and old. According to his wishes, there will be no formal ceremony; however the family is planning a memorial get-together when the snows of Walden have melted.
