Monte Avery "Buzz" Davis Jr. of Wellington, father of Steamboat Springs resident Nancy Mucklow, lost his courageous battle with colon cancer Feb. 4, 2008. He was 72.
Buzz was born April 11, 1935, in Wellington to Monte Avery and Eliza Ellen (Wood) Davis. He grew up on farms in the Wellington and LaPorte area. In 1958, he married Janet Elise Carlstrom in Denver. They proudly raised four children and spent their married lives in Cheyenne, Wyo., LaPorte and, most recently, back in Wellington.
Buzz proudly served his country with a distinguished 34-year career in the Wyoming Air National Guard, culminating with the Meritorious Service Medal awarded in 1994. He will be remembered as a loyal, hard-working man, with a great sense of humor and a love of family. He treated every day as a gift and believed that giving back to the community was a God-given privilege.
Buzz and Jan retired to Colorado in 1979. In 1994, they relocated to their dream place - "The Promised Land" where they raised cattle and hay in Buckeye. As a team, Buzz and Jan actively volunteered with the Wyoming Girl Scout Council and Boy Scouts. Alongside their son, Mike, they revitalized the Larimer County 4-H Catch-It-Calf program, touching countless lives along the way.
Buzz is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jan; children Alicia of Lincoln, Neb.; Mike, and his wife Mary, of Loveland; Nancy Mucklow, and her husband CJ, of Steamboat Springs; and Andy, and his wife Shelley, of Cheyenne, Wyo. Buzz is survived by his grandsons Andrew Avery and David James of Steamboat Springs, granddaughters Megan and Kortni of Cheyenne, Wyo.; brothers John Henry and his wife Clare, Tom and his wife Jane, and Jerry and his wife Michelle; and a host of nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and ten of his siblings. Services will be held at American Baptist Church, 600 South Shields, Fort Collins at 3 p.m. today. Buzz will be laid to rest in the Wellington Cemetery.
Memorial donation preferences include the Larimer County Extension 4-H Catch-It-Calf program, American Baptist Church of Fort Collins or Larimer County Hospice.
