Former Steamboat Springs resident Douglas Frank Sherrod died March 28, 2007, in Winter Springs, Fla., after a long illness. He was 72.
He was born in 1935 to Willard F. (Bill) and Helen M. Sherrod.
He was a 1953 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School and a retired U.S. Navy Lt. Commander.
Douglas served with honors as a U.S. Navy pilot in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters during the Cold War, including several deployments to Vietnam.
He is survived by three sons, Willard F. (Bill), of Orlando, Fla., Bradley, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Brian, of Eustis, Fla.; four grandchildren, Natalie and Jeremy, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Maggie and Gabe, of Fort Worth, Texas; Sandra Sherrod Pflieger and Jackie Grimaldi, of Steamboat Springs; three brothers, Duane, of Joplin, Mo., Donald, of Steamboat Springs, and Del, of Colbran.
A scattering of ashes and memorial service are planned for this summer in the Steamboat area.
