Joe Coffman was born in Farmington, Missouri. In 1940, his family sold the ranch in Colorado and moved to Los Angeles where Joe was employed by Douglas Aircraft. He served in the US Navy during World War II as an aircraft mechanic and PBY aircrew man in the Pacific theater.
Following his discharge from the navy, Joe was employed with General Telephone Co. of California.
Joe was retired by General Telephone after 35 yeas. His last nine years were with GTE in Taiwan where he served as president and CEO of a joint venture company with the Chinese government manufacturing telephone electronic central office switching equipment.
Following his retirement from GTE, Joe remained in Taiwan and became a partner in a Sino-American business consulting company.
Joe's wife of 43 years, Myrna, passed away in 1985 in Taiwan. In 1990, Joe moved to Steamboat Springs. He was active in the Kiwanis Club, an active member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, fond of sports activities: packing into the wilderness areas, golfing or cross country skiing.
A celebration of his life will be held on 12th October at 1:00pm at the Holy Name Catholic Church. A reception will follow at the Church.
