Obituaries

Steamboat Pilot - January 20, 2014

Bud passed peacefully with his family by his side in his home in Canon City. He was born in Oak Creek, Colorado and has always considered that area home. Bud is survived by his wife, Alice, daughters Susan Gill (Ken), Westminster, Colorado and Nancy Moore (Larry), Newnan, Georgia; grand children Sara Gill, Highlands Ranch, CO and Jared Gill (Shayla), San Francisco, California; a great granddaughter, Isla, San Francisco; sister, Betty Madsen, Canon City, two brother-in-laws, Jerry White (Patty), Clallam Bay, WA, Curtis White, Westminster, CO; 5 nieces, a nephew and numerous cousins. Bud left Oak Creek at the age of 17 to join the Navy and served on a destroyer as a Machinists Mate 3rd Class. He worked as an A&P Mechanic for United Airlines for 35 years, the last 5 years as a mechanics specialist. He and Alice raised their family in Denver and upon retirement returned “home” to Oak Creek to enjoy their cabin and land. They left Oak Creek for Canon City and the milder climate 8 years ago. Bud loved his family and spent his time off with them. He loved the outdoors; flying airplanes, fishing, hunting, hiking, and all of nature. He and Alice have traveled the world. A memorial service was held on Monday, January 20th, at 2:00 at the Harwood Funeral Home, 225 E. Main St., Florence, Colorado. Interment of Bud’s remains will be at the Oak Creek Cemetery in the fall. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Sangre de Cristo Hospice, 601 Greenwood Avenue, Canon City, CO 81212.
