Steamboat Pilot - March 18, 2014

Arizona
September 16, 1937 - March 15, 2014

Dick passed suddenly in a boating accident last Saturday, doing what he loved. He was born in Denver, Colorado to Robert and Earline O’Dell, fifth of nine children. He became an employee of United Airlines at age 17. Starting in the galley, he was then promoted to ramp service. After much hard work and dedication, he found himself in the Captain’s seat. He retired after 43 years of service.
Dick served in the Colorado National Air Guard and was called to active service during the Berlin Crisis. He was always a strong supporter of the Military and made it a point to always be seen wearing a red shirt on Fridays to support the, “Remember Everyone Deployed” Friday.
He was an avid and talented sportsman. From golfing, skiing, hunting and anything in between. He loved most to be outdoors, spending hours working on anything from his golf swing to working on his family houseboat in Lake Powell.
He spent many years living in Steamboat Springs, Colorado where his heart remained. He retired to Mesa, AZ in 2003 and was an active member of the Alta Mesa Golf Club. He leaves behind four sisters, Elaine Ontivaros (Joe), Linda Grace, Donna Underwood (Robert), Catherine Dicus (Art), Son Darin O’Dell (Bobbie), daughter Vicki Jones (Britt), six grandchildren and numerous great-grand children. Countless nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. May God rest his soul.
In lieu of flowers please send any donations in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.com

Steamboat Pilot - July 10, 2015

A Celebration of Life for Dick O’Dell will be held on Saturday July 11th at the VFW around 7:00PM. Come join in a toast to an incredible, talented, and life-long member of the beer-drinking-association man. Steamboat is where Dick’s heart lies. So no matter how you knew him (golfing, fishing, bowling, The Golden Cue, The Short Branch, or through the excellent parties he had at his house up North) please come and celebrate. If you’re my friend and can come help me honor my Dad I hope to see you there too. – Vicki Jones
