John L. "Lenny" Dwyer, age 81, of Truxton, NY, passed away on
Sunday, March 17, 2013. Born, April 25, 1931 in Apulia Station,
Lenny was a Truxton resident for most of his life.
He faithfully served his country from 1952 - 1954 in the Korean
Conflict and was employed at Cashel Trucking and Cortland Ready
Mix for over 38 years, and for a time with the New York State
Highway Department. Lenny was a communicant of St. Patrick's
Roman Catholic Church in Truxton and a 67 year member of the
Truxton Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for 11 of those
years. He was a lifelong member of American Legion Post #963 as
well as a member of the Teamsters.
He is survived by three children, Christine (Christopher) Gaty of
Fruita, Colorado; Mary (Eric) Hicks of Dryden and Patrick "PJ"
(Katie) Dwyer of Truxton; two sisters, M. Helena Dwyer and Patricia
G. Dwyer, and a brother, Leo J. "Joe" (Patty) Dwyer all of
Truxton; grandchildren, Connor, Dominic and Parker Gaty, Ethan
and Benjamin Hicks and Ryan and Emma Dwyer; several nieces,
nephews, and brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Lenny was preceded in death by his wife, Louise M. Dwyer in
2003; his mother, E. Marcella Dwyer in 1995, and his father, Leo J.
Dwyer in 1961.
Lenny's family would like to thank the staff of Cortland Park Rehabilitation
and Nursing Facility for the wonderful care they provided
to him during his time there.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00
a.m. in St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Truxton, N.Y. Prayers
of committal will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Cortland,
N.Y. The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday from
2 - 4:00 and 7 - 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home
69 N. Main St., Cortland, N.Y.
