J R Kosta passed away
November 23, 2013, at the age
of 88, after a courageous battle
with cancer.
J R was born June 23, 1925, in
Howells, Nebraska to J. Reinhold
Kosta and Dora Bossong Kosta.
At ten years old he moved to
the western slope. J R served in
the Coast Guard during WWII
which included tours in the Pacific. In 1947, J R enrolled at Mesa
Junior College. He went to work as a draftsman for the Atomic
Energy Commission, Shell Oil, and Rust Geotech.
J R met his wife, Mary Ann Smith, in 1949, and they married in
1952, in Casper, Wyoming. While working for Shell, J R and Mary
Ann also lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, Bakersfield, California,
Denver, Colorado, and Houston, Texas. He retired from Shell Oil in
1979, and settled in Grand Junction. He retired from Rust Geotech
in 1997. J R enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and was devoted to
his family.
J R is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Ann; daughter, Susan,
and son-in-law, Ross Palmer, all from Grand Junction. He is also
survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
J R was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Gordier, Laura
Craven, and Ruthie Doane, and brothers, Frank, and Frederick.
J R was a loving husband and father. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 6
at Callahan-Edfast, 2515 Patterson Rd., Grand Junction.
