Dave was born to John and Doris Sutherland Crawford at the family ranch on Parachute Creek, Colorado. He died following a long illness on May 1, 2014 at Kamiah, Idaho.
He graduated from the Grand Valley High School before enlisting in the Army in 1949. He served a three year hitch, mostly in Korea, before his discharge in 1951.
Dave joined Mountain Bell Telephone in 1952, working his way up from lineman to installer/repairman in Aspen, and finally as a Central Office technician in Grand Junction before his retirement in 1982.
He was wed to Carol Herwick on October 9, 1954, in Rifle, Colorado.
The couple had three children, David Bruce, Debra Ann, and Carla Yvonne. Although Dave and Carol divorced in 1974, they remained close friends.
Dave and his mother moved to Idaho following his retirement, to be near his sister. He did small engine repair for many years, before his final retirement.
Whether it was sailing and racing boats, flying, jeeping, hunting, trap shooting, or riding motorcycles, Dave was ever the adventurer. There seemed to be nothing he couldn’t build or repair, including two ultralight aircraft, which he built and flew. He also made beautiful jewelry.
He is survived by his sister, Eva Harris of Kamiah; two daughters, Debra Roberts and Carla Lorimor of Grand Junction; four grandsons and five great-grandchildren. His parents; brother, Jack, and son, David, predeceased him.
Memorial services will be announced at a later time.
