Sonny passed quietly, after a long
and courageous battle with Multiple
Sclerosis, at his home in Colorado
Springs, on April 15, 2014.
Sonny was born to Herbert J.
White and Lila Nelson White on
August 2, 1934, in Amarillo, TX.
He moved to Grand Junction with
his family, prior to starting school.
He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1952, as the Class
Rascal.
Sonny was a long time business owner, building many homes in the
Grand Junction area. After moving to Colorado Springs, in the 1960’s,
he built homes, owned an auto salvage yard, and an Auto Body Shop.
Sonny took great pleasure and pride in restoring automobiles to their
original condition.
Sonny was married to Charlotte L. Morris in Grand Junction in 1955.
They had three children, Kenny, Kimberly, and Kelly. Their marriage
ended in the mid 1960’s.
Sonny married renowned interior designer, Ethel Kirks, in Rome, Italy
and gained three step-children, Kevin, Kelly and Christie.
Sonny was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1993 and was bedridden
for the last nine years. Ethel put her career on hold to become
Sonny’s full-time caregiver, giving him wonderful healthcare and attention.
Throughout his ordeal, he maintained his always present sense
of humor and fun loving disposition.
In addition to his wife, Ethel of Colorado Springs, Sonny is survived
by his son, Kenneth White of Yuma, AZ; daughter, Kimberly White
of Houston, TX, and Kelly White of Ventura, CA; his step-children;
his grandchildren; his sisters, Susie (Ted) Madsen of Grand Junction;
Nancy (Kirk) Graham of Farmington, UT, and little brother, Ron Smith
of Grand Junction.
Services and Interment took place in Colorado Springs.
