John Robert Heyen, 95, of Steamboat Springs passed away on May 1, 2015 in Steamboat Springs. Graveside services will be held today, Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins, Colorado where he will be laid to rest next to his wife.
John was born on April 25, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Harry and Ethel (Wesnage) Heyen.
His first job was as a delivery boy for Western Union. He was drafted into the Army in 1941 and after basic training at Fort Dix and Fort Belvoir he joined the 1st Armored Division, first in Northern Ireland and then North Africa and Italy. He was honorably discharged from the Army in August, 1945. He married Rosemarie Toronto Muscara on August 4, 1957 in Bellmore, New York.
After graduating from New York University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, he worked for Pfizer in New York from 1952 until 1978 and then in Lee’s Summit, Missouri until he retired in 1985. He resided in Fort Collins from 2002 until 2011 before moving to Steamboat Springs.
He is survived by two daughters, Diane Miller of Steamboat Springs, CO, Linda Scelfo of Boston, MA, a son, Alfred Muscara of Callicoon, NY, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
