Arnold E. Lieske peacefully passed away April 26, 2001, at his home in Ripon, Wis. He was 89.

Arnold was born May 15, 1911, in Princeton, Wis., to Henry and Elsie (Woehlke) Lieske. Arnold grew up in Princeton and Ripon; he worked at the foundry in Milwaukee, Wis., making castings for engine blocks and various things made out of cast iron during the Depression.

He married Helen Eggleston April 27, 1932, in Ripon. Helen and Arnold farmed various farms around Ripon before moving to Mesa, Ariz., in 1947. They went into the custom combining business following the wheat harvest, which took them into eastern Colorado in 1948. In the fall of 1948, they purchased a ranch raising cattle and grain in the Steamboat Springs area. In 1960, they moved to Denver, where he became a carpenter building homes. A few years later, he worked as a truck driver driving cement trucks. In 1974, they moved back to Ripon, Wis.

Arnold had always had an interest in honeybees and enjoyed raising them and extracting the honey. He also enjoyed playing the stock market and was very successful at it. He always had a wonderful garden and took great pride in it right up to the last few hours of his life. Arnold loved a challenge and faced many in his 89 years.

He is survived by his son Arnold and wife Mary Ann Lieske of Steamboat Springs; a daughter, Marie Philman of Denver; 14 grandchildren, Delmar, Susan, Donny, Shane, David, Glenn, Willy, Jimmy, Connie, Joey, Danny, Tony, Jerry and John; four step-grandchildren, Martin, Andrea, Becky and Kristine; 31 great-grandchildren, Michael, Betty Sue, Jeremy, Debbie, Daniel, Donna, Sharon, Amy, Valerie, Vicki, Clyatt, Marie, Alyssa, Ron, Heather, Doug, Eric, Tina, Mary, Connie, Brenda, James, Anthony, Jessica, Jerry, Taylor, Blake, Michael, Kristine, Nick and Katie; 10 step-great-grandchildren, Amanda, Jennifer, Amber, Austin, Shaila, Meriah, Alissa, Kassie, Kandyce and Peter; five great-great-grandchildren, Dakota, Cortne, Brieann, Gage and Bailey; a brother, Robert Lieske of Ripon, Wis.; and three sisters, Frieda Hartwig of Ripon, Anita Bloch of Ripon and Violet Bushweiler of Neshkoro, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen, in December 1994; his sister, Loretta, and infant brother, Arthur.

A funeral service was April 30, 2001, at Our Savior's United Church of Christ in Ripon and burial was at Loper Cemetery, Ripon, Wis.
