Dacre Francklin Dunn
June 30, 1917 - July 4, 2015
On Saturday, July 4th, 2015, Dacre F. Dunn passed away from natural causes in Grand Junction, Colorado. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Dacre Francklin Dunn was born in Monte Vista, Colorado on June 30, 1917.
His parents, Edith Francklin and Dacre Dunn raised him and his sister, Alice (deceased), in Center, Colorado in the San Luis Valley. He attended Colorado State University where he
graduated with a BA in Dairy Science. He met his wife,
Annabelle, while at CSU. They were married prior to Dacre’s
time in the Navy during WWII.
Dacre served from 1941 to 1945 on two ships, the USS Wren
and the USS Brownson. After surviving an attack on the USS
Wren, he served as the chief gunnery officer on the USS
Brownson.
In 1949 Dacre, Annabelle, and their two young children moved to Grand Junction, Colorado where he opened Crescent Creamery. They had two more children while in Grand Junction and Dacre and his partners ran the creamery for many years.
The Dunns were long-time members of St. Matthews Church in Grand Junction.
In 1975 Dacre and Annabelle bought a small house in Ouray,
Colorado. They owned the home for nearly 40 years and spent as much time there as they could, touring the San Juan
mountains by Jeeping along often perilous roads. After
retirement, Dacre and Annabelle spent most of their winters in
Florence, Arizona, where they enjoyed the sun and a close group of dear friends. The two had been married for nearly 70 years when Annabelle passed away in 2012.
Dacre is survived by his four children, Dacre Jr., Gina,
Leonard, and Rick, as well as ten grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.
