Jarrell M. Massey passed
away in Rangely, Colorado on
March 26, 2015.
Jarrell was born in Vernal,
Utah on July 30, 1929, to Ora
A. Pope and Sewell Massey.
Jarrell married Opal Robbins
on November 3, 1945. Their
marriage was later solomized
in the Salt Lake Temple on
April 3, 1953. Together they
had five children. Opal passed away on June 13, 1996.
Jarrell married Betty Oba in Craig, Colorado on April 25,
1998. He was a master hunter, master gardener and a master
woodsman. Jarrell was an extremely hard worker. His many
occupations include: butcher, fence builder, rancher, farmer,
logging, oilfield, sawmill operator and outfitter. He retired as
foreman of the Upper Colorado Environmental Plant Materials
Center in 1995.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter
Day Saints. He served in many callings including Bishop of the
Meeker Ward and served as Stake Patriarch for 30 years. He
touched the lives of many people in a positive way. He was an
example of true manhood. He is a legend.
Jarrell is survived by his wife, Betty Massey; sister, Bonna
Walters; daughter, Uvonne Gale (Brent); sons, Darryl Massey
(Diana); Lannie Massey (Peggy), and Stuart Massey (Shelley);
stepsons, Gary Oba and Douglas (Ellen) Oba; and many
grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and one great-greatgrandson.
Jerrell is preceded in death by his parents, Sewell and Ora
Massey; wife, Opal; daughter, Opal; sister, Virginia, and
brothers, Boyd, Robert and Garn.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at
11:00 a.m., in Rangely, CO at the Rangely LDS Chapel, 123
Eagle Crest. A viewing will be held Wednesday morning from
9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the chapel prior to the funeral service.
Interment will be at the Vernal Memorial Park in Vernal, UT at
3:00 p.m. under the direction of the Ashley Valley Funeral
Home.
