Earl Leon Williams, 87, of Chamblee, Georgia, formerly of
Grand Junction, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 28,
2015 in hospice care. He was the last remaining child of Coen
and Gladys Williams, having been preceded in death by his sister,
Lucille Rice and brother, Russell Williams.
He is survived by his five children, Kelly Gribbon, Kerry May,
Kate Rausch, Tim Williams and Pat Williams; 17 grandchildren,
and four great-grandchildren.
He was born in Cheyenne, WY and raised primarily in Bountiful,
UT. His dad died tragically in a train accident when Earl
was 12. Tough times followed and Earl dropped out of high
school, eventually enlisting in the Coast Guard in 1945, and was
honorably discharged after the war. He finished his G.E.D. and
began classes at the University of Utah, only to be recalled by
the Navy Reserve to serve in the Korean War as a radio operator
on the U.S.S. Virgo in Japan and Korean Peninsula. Upon his return
he re-enrolled and graduated from the University of Utah
with a B.S. in Political Science in 1953. He began employment
in medical sales in 1954, primarily with the Kendall Company.
He married the former Marianne Thometz in September, 1954
and they moved frequently with the business until finally settling
in Chamblee, GA in 1970.
He made and truly found a home in Grand Junction in 1996 to
2013. He served his country again through AmeriCorps where
he was a Senior Partners and alcohol counselor working with minors
in possession offenders. He will be missed by his friends
and family.
Memorial donations may be made to Mesa Co. Partners, 1169
Colroado Ave. Grand Junction, Co 81501.
A local memorial reception for his friends will be held Monday,
