Angelo Iacovetto, age 92, longtime resident of Routt County, passed away Jan. 24 at HopeWest Hospice in Grand Junction, Colorado. A memorial service will be held, at 1 p.m. July 30 at Pearl Lake.

Angelo Iacovetto, a Steamboat Springs and Clark, CO local icon never knew a stranger. He was known for his strong work ethic, outgoing and charming personality, his country two-step and of course his unbeatable, homegrown, Routt County Fair Grand Champion garlic.
Angelo passed away Sunday, January 24th 2016 in Grand Junction, CO. He was 92 years old.
Born May 20th 1923 to Sam and Angelina Iacovetto in Phippsburg, CO, he was the 6th of 10 Iacovetto children. Angelo married Helen Commack Aug. 2, 1942 in Oak Creek, CO. In 1944 he served his country during World War II in the air force. After returning from war Angelo served as postmaster in South Routt County until 1949 when he purchased Dream Island. Together, Helen and Angelo built one of Steamboat’s first vacation resorts, Dream Island. They raised their five children, 3 girls and 2 boys in Steamboat Springs on Dream Island. Over the following two decades they created and ran several other local businesses such as the Harbor Hotel, Thunderhead Inn and Glenn Eden Ranch. In 1972 Angelo and Helen retired at their ranch on Pearl Lake in North Routt County. Angelo was awarded numerous awards and held several titles during his life including, President of the Visiting Nurses Association, Special Deputy Sheriff, Honorary Park and Outdoor Recreation Ranger, District Wildlife Manager and others. While his accomplishments are endless, Angelo’s legacy is far more. His wit and charm will forever be one of a kind.
Angelo Iacovetto is survived by his wife of 73 years Helen Iacovetto, his children daughter Judy Iacovetto, son Wayne (Luanna) Iacovetto, son Gordon (Patti) Iacovetto; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his daughter Dorina (Gene) Sanders and daughter Marlene (Tim) Slusher.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at Holy Name Catholic Church in Steamboat Springs, CO on Wednesday January 27th at 6:00pm. Funeral Mass at Holy Name Catholic Church on Thursday January 28th at 10:00am
