Eagle Valley Enterprise - February 16, 1967

FORREST W. CAVE DIED IN HOSPITAL FEB. 10.
Forrest W. CAVE, former Eagle County Treasurer, died in the Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, February 10, where he had been a patient for several weeks.
Mr. CAVE had lived in Eagle since 1923 and had a prominent place in community participation. He worked in the Methodist Church, the Western Council of Boy Scouts, the Democratic Party, Lions Club, American Legion, Little League Baseball team, Chamber of Commerce and Club 20. He served one year as President of the Colorado Association of County Treasurers and was a charter member of Battle Mountain Post 47, American Legion.
Mr. CAVE was born in Redfield, Iowa, October 17, 1890. He was the second of three children born to Catherine and Aaron CAVE. Stella, his sister, preceded him in death.
In 1907 his family moved to Fruita, Colorado and engaged in farming.
As a young man, he worked in the Lady Belle Mine southeast of Eagle and at the Sproule Ranch on Brush Creek. He also worked in Cripple Creek and in Gilman. He later went to business college in Grand Junction then returned to Gilman to work in the mine office of the Empire Zinc Company.
He married Nettie MACAULAY July 10, 1918 in Seattle, Wash. when he was in the Medical Corps during World War I. He was a beloved and wonderful father to her four children.
Mr. CAVE retired as County Treasurer in 1962 after 25 years in that office.
Mrs. CAVE died in 1960.
He leaves to mourn his passing one brother Orville of Eagle, two nieces, Helen FULLER of San Antonio, Tex., Vesta MARKS of Harlingen, Tex., one great niece and a great-great-niece; four children: Violet EATON of Lynwood, Calif., Vivian McLOUGHLIN of Hollywood, Calif., Isabel NESTHOUSE of Eagle and Donald MACAULAY of Denver; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was conducted in the Eagle Methodist Church Sunday afternoon by Rev. Don LAGGE, and interment was in Sunset View cemetery, Eagle.

HERE FOR FUNERAL.
Miss Sharon MACAULAY was here from Denver last weekend for the funeral of her grandfather, Forrest CAVE. Also here from out of town for the service were Donald MACAULAY of Leadville, and the Nick BUCHHOLZES of Denver, who were the guests of Mr. Buchholz's sister, Mrs. Orville CAVE and husband.
A step-daughter, Mrs. Violet EATON had been here for several weeks from California and her sister Mrs.Vivian McLOUGHLIN had also spent a week with Forrest, coming from Hollywood. Mrs. Eaton's son, Forrest recently came from Midland, Texas to visit Mr. CAVE at the Glenwood hospital.
