James Golden, 89, of Las Vegas, NV passed away August 1, 2016. James was born November 22, 1926 in Vernon, Texas to Ruby and James Golden, Sr. He moved to Oklahoma early in life, graduating from Cleveland High School where he lettered in several sports. He was enrolled in the Army Air Corp cadet program and joined the service right out of high school, serving Occupation Duty in Japan. Upon returning home, he attended the University of Tulsa for 2 years. Jim was married to wife Lucille for 45 years, and they had two sons, Michael and Tony. Daughter Gina was adopted into the family in 1964. Jim had a long and distinguished career serving in the utility industry for 45 years and retired as President and General Manager of Yampa Valley Electric Association in 1994. His lengthy public service career included serving as Steamboat's last mayor from 1972 to 1974. Jim married his wife, Ruth, in 1990. They moved to Las Vegas in 1994 where they enjoyed golf, dancing, and traveling extensively. They spent summers in Steamboat until 2008.
James was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Lucille; two brothers (Bill and Vernon Golden); granddaughter (Emily Golden); and great grandson (Karl Bower). He is survived by his devoted wife Ruth; his sons Michael (Dani) Golden of Loveland, CO; Dr. Tony (Mindy) Golden of Pasadena, CA; daughter Gina (Michael) Toothaker of Steamboat; grandsons James (Imelda) Golden, Cody Golden, Brandon DeShazer and Adam Miller; granddaughter Abby DeShazer; and two great grandchildren Lila and Joseph James Golden. A memorial mass was held in Las Vegas on August 19, 2016. A memorial mass will be held in Steamboat on Friday, September 9, 2016, 11:00am at Holy Name Catholic Church. A reception will take place at the church following the service and interment.
