Arnold Eugene Claussen of Gypsum died Tuesday at Valley View Hospital. He was 88.

Claussen was born in Ogden, Iowa, the son of Carl Claussen and Alice Peterson. He married Lorraine Wright in May 1942 in Lincoln, NE. Claussen served in the US Navy during WW2.

Claussen, an avid fly fisherman was a heavy equipment mechanic and welder before his retirement. He had worked since 1948 on many large projects, including Reudi Gap, Blue Mesa Reservoir, Dillon Dam, Rifle Gap Dam, Interstate 70 and Eisenhower Tunnel.

Recently, he was a patient at Glen Valley Nursing Home in Glenwood Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carl Claussen Sr. and Donald Claussen.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, daughters Catherine Hill and Debra Fuller, and son Tom Claussen. He also has four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place at the Farnum-Holt Funeral Home Chapel from 5-8 PM Friday. Funeral services are at !0 AM Saturday at the Farnum-Hot Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood Springs.
