Blaine D. Ford
November 14, 1918 - June 2, 2016
Dad passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016.
He was born November 14, 1918, in Haswell, CO to Lee B. and Bernice Ford. The family then moved to Paonia where he spent his early childhood years. The tales he could tell gave us a great appreciation for life growing up in a rural area in the early 1900’s.
He then moved to Delta, CO where he graduated from high
school. He moved to Grand Junction to attend Mesa College
where he met his true love, Elaine. Shortly thereafter they
eloped to Las Vegas and were married in 1942. When Dad was called to serve his country during World War II, his service
included landing at Omaha Beach on D-day and the Battle of
the Bulge.
Upon his return from military service, Blaine and his dad
founded their custom home building company, Ford
Construction, which became their lifelong passion. Blaine was
active in the Western Colorado Contractor’s Association where
he was the only person to serve two terms as president. He was also a longtime member of the Elks BPOE.
Blaine loved the outdoors. He and his dad built a family cabin
on Grand Mesa where many fond memories with family and
friends were made. He viewed life with a quick wit, a positive
attitude and a sense of humor which included creative little
diddy’s to break the silence. He had a great passion for fishing
and loved any time he could spend on the Mesa. He also
enjoyed skiing and skied well into his 80’s. And a weekly round
of golf was always on the agenda. He made the second of two
hole-in one’s at the age of 92.
Blaine is survived by four children, Kenneth Ford (Pam)
Longmont, CO; Ronald Ford (Carolyn) Grand Junction, CO;
Janet Hunter (Mickey) Castle Pines, CO, and Ellen Ostrand
(Mark) Chandler, AZ; five grandchildren, Kelsey, Ashley,
Brittany, Cody, and Keelan and five great-grandchildren. Blaine
is preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Elaine;
parents; sisters, Meredith Haley, Vivian (Bid) Hallock, Glenrose
(Denny) Hester, and Charlene Olsen and brother, Lee Ford, Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 8 at 1:00
p.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
