Geo. A. Coburn Dies in His 101st Year
FINE OLD GENTLEMAN PASSED AWAY AT HOME OF GRANDDAUGHTER IN MINTURN SATURDAY

Eagle county's oldest citizen and last living Civil War veteran, George A. COBURN passed away at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. E. H. Edlund last Saturday March 30. Mr. Coburn passed the 100th year of life on December 18, 1945 when nearly all of his family gathered at the Edlund home for a big Christmas party which the grand old gentleman enjoyed greatly then still being in good health. Mr Coburn was born in Westfield, VT Dec. 18, 1845. When the war broke out between the States, he joined the 9th Vermont infantry and served for three years with the Union army. He was with Grant's army in the last big battle of the war, marching into Richmond when Lee's army collapsed that last stronghold of the confederates as taken by Grant's army. Mr. Coburn was the last living member of Abraham Lincoln Post, Grand Army of the Republic, of Denver. He has made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Edlund for the past 20 years and it has been only the past few months that he has not been able to ge tout each day for a walk about town and to greet his friends. Death was caused by the infirmities of old age-- the human body just couldn't take any more years. He is survived by his granddaughter, Mrs. Edlund, three great grandchildren: Alvin Edlund, Enid, OK and Delbert Edlund, Los Angeles, CA; one great-great-grandson, Douglas Edlund of Los Angeles. Funeral services of thsi week in Minturn Tuesday of this week in charge of Rev. Henry H. Baker of Glenwood Springs, an old friend of Mr. Coburn. Burial was made in Leadville.
