Max M. Marr, 81, Rapid
City, died Thursday, July 7,
2016, at the Fountain Springs
Healthcare in Rapid City, after
a prolonged illness.
Funeral services will be
10:00 a.m. Friday, July 15,
2016, at the Life Spring
Wesleyan Church in Sturgis,
with Pastor Glen Duggin
officiating. With burial to
follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Max was born May 27, 1935, in Coyville, KS to Joseph and
Alph (Bentley) Marr. While still in nursery school, he met the
young lady that would become his wife, Janice Williams. They
dated all through high school and they married on April 11,
1954, at Elko, NV. They were married 62 years and together for
77.
Max served in the United States Navy during the Korean
Conflict as a Yeoman First Class. On his return from war, Max
entered college at the University of Northern Colorado at
Greeley, eventually graduating with a Master’s Degree in
education. After graduation, Max took a teaching position in
Pendelton, OR. In 1963, Max joined the FBI as a special agent.
He spent 23 years in the Bureau ending that career in 1986 in
Grand Junction, Colorado. After retirement, Max started and
operated his own private investigators service for a number of
years.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending many family
filled hours in the field and on the water.
Max is survived by his wife, Janice N. Marr; son, Richard
Marr; two daughters, Diana (Dean) Heymans, and Kellie
(Blake) Thomas; 12 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren;
sister, Jody (Bob) Dawson; brother-in-law, Joe Williams; two
nephews, Danny Miller, and Jack Williams, and three nieces,
Deana Miller, Cathy Mitzie and Michelle Dawson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alpha Marr;
his father-in-law, Jack, and mother-in-law, Vita Williams.
