Survivors include her husband, James H.; two daughters, Shirley Swan of Thompson Station, Tennessee, and Sharon Swan Cowdrey of Franklin, Tennessee; and one sister, Doris Labude of Stuttgart, Germany. Marianne Amalie Nelson passed away Friday, July 15, 2 0 1 6 , at the HopeWest Hospice Care Center, she was 90.
Marianne was born on April 18, 1926, in Stuttgart, Germany to Eugen and Julie Hennige. As a young woman, she played the piano and was a champion swimmer. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1952 and received her Bachelor’s degree from Northwood Institute (MI). She was a lifelong member of Beta Sigma Phi in Michigan and Grand Junction, CO. Marianne was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, cousin and friend to many. Before her passing she and husband, Jim, traveled the world and created many happy memories. She was recently able to spend her 90 birthday with family. She had a fondness for animals and especially loved birds of all kinds. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband, James Nelson of Grand Junction, CO; daughters, Shirley Swan of Thompson’s Station, TN, and Sharon Swan Cowdrey (Ted) of Franklin, TN, and a sister, Doris Labude of Stuttgart, Germany. In lieu of flowers remembrances can be made to HopeWest Hospice, 3090B North 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
