Kermit Carl Schade, of
Grand Junction, CO, passed
away on March 25, 2017, at
the Veteran’s Medical Center
in Grand Junction.
Kerm was born December
23, 1924, in Gibsonburg, OH
to Minnie and Carl Schade.
He is preceded in death by his
parents; his wife, Norma Pratt
Schade; his sister, Helen, and
brother, Ernest.
Kerm joined the Navy July,
1942 and served with the
122nd Naval Construction
Battalion in the Asiatic
Pacific Theatre. He was
honorably discharged in 1946.
After service, Kerm attended
Tiffin University in Tiffin,
OH, graduating with an
Associate’s Degree in
Business Administration and
Accounting.
Kerm married Marian Jean Coss in July, 1949, and had one
daughter, Carol. They were later divorced. He worked for
Marathon Oil in Findlay, Ohio for over 25 years. After retiring
from Marathon, he came to Colorado and held various jobs in
the Denver area before moving to Grand Junction as a partner in
Sir Speedy Printing. Later, Kerm worked for various oil
refineries in Western Colorado. Kerm volunteered his time
working with various organizations including Partners and
Rotary International.
Kerm married Norma Voss Pratt in Grand Junction, in June,
1983. They lived in Vernal, UT and Green Valley, AZ before
settling in Grand Junction. Kerm and Norma traveled
extensively and enjoyed taking their camper all over the United
States and then visiting many countries overseas.
Throughout his life Kerm was an avid wood carver. All who
knew him and saw his work or were fortunate enough to own
one of his pieces know the extent of his talent. His birds looked
nearly life like.
Kerm is survived by his daughter, Carol Goodman of
Hendersonville, TN; step-daughter, Pamela (Allen) Baumgartle
of Grand Junction; step-son, Stephen (Peg) Pratt of Rapid City,
SD, and step-son, Jeffrey (Judy) Pratt of San Diego, CA. Kerm
has one grandson, Korbin; two step-grandsons, and three stepgranddaughters.
He also has ten step-grandchildren.
Kerm was a member of First Christian Church, Grand
Junction, CO. Donations, in lieu of flowers can be made to First
Christian Church, Grand Junction, CO.
Memorial services will be Monday, April 10, 2017, 1:00 p.m.
at First Christian Church, 1326 N. 1st Street, Grand Junction.
