James Everett Haldane
August 31, 1948 - February 24, 2017
James Everett Haldane, the son of William Everett Haldane
and Margaret Ellen (Shea) Haldane, was born in Grand Junction, Colorado, on August 31, 1948, and died on February 24, 2017, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
He was a boarder for two years at St. Michael’s High School in
Santa Fe, New Mexico. After graduation, Jim was drafted and
served two years in the United States Army, eventually stationed in Germany.
Upon his discharge, Jim found a life-long occupation in the
construction trades beginning in Texas, then Arizona, California,
and back to his home state of Colorado.
There he met Linda Chesshire, marrying in Ouray, Colorado,
in August of 1984. Daughter Jill was born while living in
Mancos, Colorado.
In 1988, the family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where Jim
continued his trade as a union carpenter, working on both civic
and commercial building projects. He loved the work and the camaraderie. Their second daughter, Angela, was born during this time.
Jim and his family moved in 1998 to Linda’s hometown of Shenandoah, Iowa, so that their daughters could appreciate the wonders of the small-town life which had so benefited both of them.
Jim and Linda initially devoted their time to renovating a farmhouse once owned by her father. Jim continued to do various construction jobs, but he mostly enjoyed finishing walnut-slab and cedar-slab tabletops.
The family continues to cherish the Haldane family cabin located on Grand Mesa, Colorado. Jim had spent time there nearly every summer since the age of five. He loved to fish, especially for trout, and was an avid reader. He was known for his humor and his mean chili.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Jill Fibikar (Eric) of
Lawler, Iowa, and Angela of Omaha, Nebraska; granddaughter,
Emmy Fibikar (22 months old), and a grandson is expected in
June. His older brothers, Bill (Carolyn) of Bozeman, Montana,
and Dick of Riggins, Idaho, mourn the loss of their brother.
Jim’s life is also celebrated by many cousins, other family, neighbors, and friends in many places.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 13, at 5:00 p.m., at
the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home. A memorial service will
be held at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home on Tuesday,
March 14, at 11:00 a.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Shenandoah Public Library.
