EAGLE, Colorado ” Michael “Mike” W. Johnson, of Eagle, died Monday. He was 59.
Michael grew up in the Eagle Valley and spent his childhood exploring the hills of Castle Peak.
Michael graduated from Colorado State University and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked in the commercial steel industry in Denver for over 25 years.
Michael was recently active in the Eagle County Historical Society and worked for the local history department of the Eagle Public Library uploading archived photographs and preserving the history of our beautiful valley. He loved golfing, hunting, reading and watching his children play sports.
Michael is survived by his wife, Janice Johnson, of Centennial, Colo.; their children Jeffrey Johnson, of Parker, Colo., Jennifer Johnson, of Steamboat Springs, and Jared Johnson, of Centennial.
He also is survived by his mother, Phyllis Johnson, of Eagle; brother Scott Johnson, of Tempe, Ariz.; and his sister Alexis Miller Gibbore, of Monument, Colo.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Sunset View Cemetery in Eagle. A reception will follow at the Eagle Public Library, 600 Broadway.
