Wallace Stewart Gross, 80, Fruita, died July 17, 2017, at his home. Services will take place at 10 a.m. Aug. 4 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado. He was a School District 51 principal. Survivors include his wife, Jera; one son, John E. of Cortez; two daughters, Jonella M. Rademacher of Lacross, Wisconsin, and Linda G. Holloway of Denver; three brothers, Richard Gross of Wilsonville, Oregon, Frank Gross of Littleton, and Orie Francis of Electric City, Washington; and seven grandchildren. Memorial contributions to a charity of one’s choice.

Wallace Stewart Gross

Wally died at home as he wished. He was born to Richard Gross and Martha Balbach in Grand Junction, CO. His mother died when Wally and Richard were three and five. His father married Ruby Francis. Frank was born to this union. Wally attended elementary thru high school in Grand Junction. After graduation he enlisted in the Army, serving in Seoul, South Korea during peace time. He returned home and attended Mesa Junior College 1959-1961. There he met Jera Petric their spring semester, they married August 11, 1962. Wally earned a Business Administration Degree from Western State College. He worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co., returned to Western State College earning an Elementary and Masters Degree in Elementary Education. He student taught at Tope Elementary, taught at Riverside, Columbus, Fruitvale Elementary, was a Principal at Fruitvale and ended education career as Principal of Clifton Elementary. Wally and Jera have three children. They built a home on the Redlands from the ground up. They construced a cabin on Grand Mesa with Jera’s brother and sister in-law, and helped their son build a home in Cortez, CO. Wally exemplified teaching, was an accomplished wood worker, and mechanic. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and stepmother. He is survived by wife, Jera; children, Jonella (Dana) Rademacher, Linda (Brian) Holloway, John Gross; grandchildren, Ryan, Erin, Connor Rademacher, Jordan, Danielle Holloway, Levi, Luke Gross; brothers, Richard Gross, Frank (Wilma) Gross, Orie (Myrna) Francis. Wally worked hard and made sure his wife and children were well supported. He will be missed by his family. Services at 10:00 a.m, August 4 at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 2830 Riverside Parkway, Grand Junction, CO, with reception 11:30 at Adobe Creek Golf Course, 1853 I Road, Fruita, 81521.
