Kathleen Lydia
Baughman
September 16, 1947 - November 5, 2017
Kathie went home to be with
God, Jesus, Mary, her
husband, and her dogs.
She was born, a coalminer’s
daughter, to Alexander Takach
and Julia Takach (Dobrich) in
Wheeling, West Virginia. The
family moved to Duarte,
California, in 1958. Her dad
passed away in 1959. Her mother moved she and her sister to
Grand Junction, where they once lived for a short time.
Kathie graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1965.
She married soon after high school. The marriage lasted ten
years and ended in divorce. She married Lawrence E.
Baughman on May 22, 1976. They were married for 36 years
with Larry passing away in December, 2012. They have one
son, Alexander R. Baughman, born in May 1979.
Kathie also graduated from the College of Hard Knocks and
had many jobs until she retired. Her many careers included
telephone operator, medical assistant, bookkeeper, Director of
Grand Valley Catholic Outreach Soup Kitchen, CURVES for
Women, and then retired to take care of her ailing husband.
She wrote and published a book in 2003. The book titled,
“Kathie’s Fine Dining”, was all about the Soup Kitchen,
including her volunteers and soup-line patrons.
Kathie was known for her big hairdos and big earrings. She
invented "bling" before bling was in style!
She loved cooking and was an excellent cook. She created
beautiful floral arrangements, crocheted, and enjoyed her big
flower box, and sitting out on her screened-in porch with her
dog, Missy.
Most of all, she loved her family with all her heart and soul.
Her spirit will always be with them.
Survivors include son, Alex (Connie) of Johnstown, CO; sister,
Willie Chesney of Grand Junction, CO; nephew, Brandon; niece,
Tiffany, and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Rosary will be on Friday, November 10, at 7:00 p.m. at
Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Memorial Mass will be held
Saturday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of
Mary Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HopeWest
Hospice, 3090B N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
