Androlica Velasquez, better known to all as “Andy,” died on Thursday at her home in the care of her family. She was 80.
Andy was born on Sept. 4, 1928, to Tranquelino and Claudina Montoya, of New Mexico. She married Jose Solome Velasquez on Dec. 1, 1948. Together they had six children.
Andy’s main focus in life was instilling the values in which she truly believed in her children. Her enjoyments were crocheting dolls, listening to Spanish music, her novellas, the visits and calls from family and friends, baking and cooking.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jose, who died in 2002; her son Roger Velasquez; and daughter Diane Velasquez.
She is survived by her children, Gilbert (Joann) Velasquez, of Leadville, Charlie (Becky) Velasquez, of Truchas, N.M., Joann (Mike) Lovato, of Longmont, Colo., and Cathy (Scott) Griego, of Leadville; grandchildren Carlos, Lisa, Valerie, Jennifer, Manuel, Diane, Audrey, Fabian, David, Joseph and Chantelle; and great grandchildren, Madelin, Maseo, Mathew, Issac, Alejandro, Davianna, Lorenzo, Angel, Cruzito, Anthony, Justice and David Jose.
A Rosary was recited on Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Leadville. The Reverend Gus Stewart will officiate.
Androlica will be laid to rest next to her husband in St. Joseph Cemetery in Leadville. Pallbearers will be Manuel Velasquez, Fabian Lovato, Joseph Griego, Daniel Gonzales, David Griego, Mark Torres, Joe Flores and Daniel Rascon. Honorary Pallbearer will be Alejandro Martinez.
A reception will follow at the Leadville Eagle’s Lodge.
