George Lewis Bevan December 26, 1930 - October 12, 2018
George Lewis Bevan was born on December 26, 1930, to Ralph and Georgia Wood Bevan on the family ranch near Mesa, Colorado, and flew to heaven to be with his beloved Mary Jean on October 12, 2018, at HopeWest. George grew up on the family ranch near Mesa and attended school in Mesa, Colorado. Upon graduation from high school he attended Mesa College and received an Associate’s degree in Education. After graduation George returned to Mesa to continue the operation of the family ranch. On September 10, 1950, he married Mary Jean Rasmussen; they were happily married for 66 years. Together they had four children. George, along with ranching, worked many jobs: a lift operator at the Old Grand Mesa Ski Hill, livestock buyer and trader operating in Colorado and Utah, guide and outfitter, bus driver, and substitute teacher. He was a talented craftsman. He enjoyed gunsmithing and creating beautiful stocks for the guns he crafted. Later in life he took to silversmithing, and many locals sport the belt buckles and jewelry he designed and created. George served on many community boards: Mesa County Planning Commission, Plateau Valley Fire Board, Plateau Valley Hospital Board, Mesa Sewer and Water, and the Mesa Cemetery Board. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting and guiding throughout Mesa County. He and Mary Jean enjoyed visiting Las Vegas and Mesquite, and continued to do so as long as their health allowed. Many miles were put on vehicles traveling to watch children, grandchildren, and great-grandkids participate in various sports and activities. If you knew George, you knew of his love of a good argument. George is survived by his children, Dennis (and the late Rita) Bevan of Mesa; Tim and Kym Bevan of Grand Junction; Rudy Bevan and Pam Hawkins of Loma, and Tori and Randy Kittle of Grand Junction; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and his Sally dog. Graveside services for both George and Mary Jean will be held on December 29, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mesa Cemetery. A gathering will take place after at the Mesa Community Club. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to HopeWest, 3090B N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506, or the Plateau Valley First District.
