JAMES SCHALNUS: 1927 - 1987
James Eugene Schalnus, 59, of Las Vegas, Nev., died at his home on Sunday, Jan 4, 1987. Services, conducted by Pastor Jonathan Schultz, were held on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 1 p.m. in the Yampa Bible Church. Interment was in the Yampa Cemetery. Joan Carnahan, accompanied on the organ by Flora Mae Crowner, sang "How Great Thou Art” and "Amazing Grace.” Pallbearers were Larry Puryear, Duane Acord, Edward Farrington, Jack Redmond, Kirk Crowner and Blaine Whaley. Born in Brush on Oct. 16, 1927, James was the son of Otto A. and Mollie Foos Schalnus. Following graduation from the Yampa High School, he earned a degree from Colorado State University. He served in the Air Force during World War II. Upon his discharge, he found employment with the Bureau of Land Management, for which he worked until his retirement. He leaves his parents, residents of Yampa; two brothers, Gerald and John Schalnus of Yampa; four sisters, Marilyn Buterbaugh and Carol Bittle of Grand Junction, Ruth Lince of Olathe and Arlene Gabel of Fresno, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
