Eileen Thurston, 19 year old daughter of George Thurston of Glenwood Springs died in St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. April 20, following an illness which had kept the young woman under constant care of doctors and in hospitals for the past several years. Her father had been in Rochester with her for the past month. Miss Thurston attended the local grade and high school when her father lived here, manager of the Holy Cross Electric Association office here, moving to Glenwood about two yearns ago. While they lived here Mrs. Thurston passed away in 1947 and when health permitted, Miss Thurston took her place as head of her father’s home. Despite the handicap of her poor health, Eileen took an active interest in social affairs of the younger group here and was a member of the Order of Rainbow for Girls, and was an honor student at school. When illness confined her to her home or in hospitals, she kept in touch with the activities of her friends, and maintained an extraordinarily sunny disposition. Born in Carbondale April 25, 1931, Eileen received her education there and in Basalt, Eagle and Glenwood, and last spring was chosen by her teachers and the Glenwood Springs American Auxiliary Unit as a representative to Girls State at Colorado Women’s College on the basis of her scholastic achievement, her character and standing with her classmates in the Junior class there. Funeral services, Were held by Rev G. A. Weinrich, Lutheran minister in Glenwood Springs Tuesday. The Older of Rainbow for Girls from Eagle participated in the services. Funeral music was a group of vocal solos by Mrs. J. D. Vanderhoof accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Lawrence Dever. Pall bearers were Alex Macdonell. Gene Stewart. Al Letey, Floyd Brooks, Lawrence Brooks and Joe Carthell and burial was in Carbondale near the grave of her mother, Burdge Mortuary was in charge of burial. A large number of people from Eagle and Gypsum drove to Glenwood for the services. Surviving besides her father are a younger sister, Karen; two aunts, Mrs. Charles Snavely of Pasadena, California and Mrs. J. A. Hotz of Glenwood; and four uncles: Kenneth Comrie of Glenwood, Gebrge Comrie of Denver, Dow Thurston of Rifle and Harold Thurston of Denver.
