Howard William Thurston, 91, of Bond, died June 10 at Vail Valley Medical Center.
He was born July 27, 1915, in Salina, Kan., to Phillip Sheridan and Bertha Kate (Clarkson) Thurston. He married Dorothy June Henry on Jan. 11, 1949, in Grand County.
When Thurston first arrived in Grand County, he worked on many area ranches and was later employed in the construction industry with Peter Kiewitt & Sons. He was a 50-year member of the No. 9 Construction Union.
Thurston is survived by his wife, June; two children, Robert P. Thurston (Hildegard) of Colorado Springs and Dorothy A. Arnold (Ronnie) of Independence, Texas; a brother, Harley Thurston; a sister; Beulah Hoteling; five half-sisters, Patty Wright, Bernitha Letch (Albert), Rita Peterman (Ron), Gladys Brockway (John), and Alda Lawrence; a half-brother, Jim Netherland; grandsons Kurtis Arnold (Donna) of Reno, Nev., and Shane Thurston, of Colorado Springs; granddaughter Kristy Vellagas (Joseph) of Murrieta Calif.; and great-grandchildren Stormy Gage, Sadie, Fisher, Matteson Ann and Lucas.
A memorial graveside service with interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sheephorn Cemetery.
