George Emery Attebury, son of Ruth L. and Wilburn Attebury,
passed away on December 15, 2020, at the age of 70, after a very
brief illness.
He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on November 16, 1950,
but raised in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, where he graduated from
Shawnee Mission North High School. He joined the Army Reserves
and attended Kansas State University. George worked for several
years in Kansas City, Missouri, before moving to Colorado, where
his heart was. In his young adult and middle aged years he was an
avid skier. In his later years, he worked as a caregiver for people
who had disabilities.
He leaves his sisters, Carol (Neal) Watts of Stephenville, Texas;
Barbara (Brian) Bowman of Ithaca, New York, and many nieces,
nephew, great-nieces and one great-nephew. He also leaves many
friends, along with special friends, Becky Groves and Dalt Garlitz.
George was particularly known for his sharp wit and legendary
sense of humor, which have become part of the family lore. He also
had an undying love for airplanes and flight, even taking lessons to
become a pilot. George was especially fond of all dogs and never
met a dog he didn’t like, and the dogs, invariably, loved him back.
George is very much missed and has been a beloved son, brother,
and friend.
