Raymond Jones
March 27, 1927 - March 5, 2021
Raymond Jones “Ray” passed
away on March 5. He was 22
days shy of his 94th birthday. He
was in the compassionate and
thoughtful care of Hospice.
Ray was born to Sam and
Bessie Jones in Big Spring,
Texas. His parents and two
siblings preceded Ray in death.
A sister survives him.
Ray served in the U.S. Navy
during WWII.
He met the love of his life, Earlene Bond, and they married on
November 29, 1948. This became an amazing love story that lasted
72 years. Two daughters were born, Sandy Cruz (Paul), and Sherri
DeRose (Ron), both currently living in Grand Junction. He was a
devoted father, surrounded by estrogen and loving every minute of
it. He instilled in his daughters the appreciation of a strong work
ethic, taught them that your word is your bond, to be a person of
integrity and the importance of being an honorable person.
The majority of his working life was spent in industrial
construction as a Project Manager for TIC. The level of skill he
possessed in this area commanded the respect of his peers. He was
known for never asking anything from a person that he himself was
not willing to do.
Ray was a loving grandfather to six grandchildren, Douglas Read
(Jenny) of San Antonio, TX; Aundrea DeRose-Kancilia (Kirk) of
Rifle, CO; Niccole Campbell (Brent) of San Antonio, TX; Karen
DeRose of Grand Junction, CO; Aaron DeRose of Grand Junction,
and Tiffany Cruz-Odom (Jake) of Buda, TX. They affectionately
called him Papa. He has eight precious great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their appreciation to his Hospice
caregivers. There are no services planned at this t
